US Army Doctor and Green Beret, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Shawn Alderman, MD, designed the Immediate Response Roll (IR2).
Shawn's design was born from his time providing battlefield care for wounded soldiers in Somalia and Afghanistan. During deployments, he relied on trauma treatment rolls- aid kits meticulously packed to optimize weight, space, and lifesaving capability. The IR2 was created to deliver the same level of preparedness for everyday people, parents, business, and first responders. Remarkably, it is the only first aid kit with built-in splinting mechanism.
Shawn began as a Airborne Infantryman. He attended Ranger School, then was selected for the US Army Special Forces (Green Berets). He was chosen as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant (MOS 18D) - the premier experts in combat casualty care. He was deployed in support of Operation Restore Hope (Somalia) and Operation Uphold Democracy (Haiti).
In 1999, Shawn answered the call to become a physician. After September 11, 2001, he requested assignment back to Special Forces - this time as a doctor. He was deployed multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines (OEF-P), Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan (OEF-A), and Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR). Through each deployment, his trauma treatment roll remained his kit of choice.
Years later, while snowboarding with his son, a significant knee injury put his medical training to the test. Despite having multiple commercial aid kits, none included a splinting mechanism capable of stabilizing a long bone injury. This was the moment Shawn realized that a new kind of kit was needed.
Drawing from lessons in Afghanistan and Iraq, Shawn developed the IR2. It was the first-of-its-kind first aid kit for everyday use. It was compact, versatile, and capable of treating a wide range of injuries. The design bridged the gap until higher-level care is reached. It was built to deliver the most value and effectiveness - "the most bang for your buck".
